Michigan City, IN and Joliet, IL - By Car

I have been spending time with family and friends. I rode with my parents (crammed into the back of a VW Bug with my bike, gear, and golf clubs - funny sight for sure!) after a day at Silver Lake with my cousins, down to Michigan City, IN. Good friends awaited us with not only hugs and smiles but also fantastic biking advice. Anne and Cary convinced me to turn to the efficient world that is BIKE SHOES. And the comfort world that is ASS CREME. And the safety world that is EXCHANGABLE LENS SUNGLASSES. Important things... that were made possible by the generousity (and lovingly supressed worry) of my Grandma. *THANK YOU* We drove down to Shorewood, IL on Saturday to spend some time seeing family. And learning to clip in, clip out, clip in, clip out, clip in, clip out of my bike pedals. Quality mapping time, blogging time, eating and drinking, sleeping, re-packing... Monday begins the real deal. For Real.

We are alllllll sooo proud of your fierce adventurous bike ride West. If you need any help out West, I have folks in Phoenix, friends in Los Gatos in California, Redwoods California, Lake Tahoe California, Reno Nevada. If you need any help , please, all my friends and family will take you in for dinner or anything. Just let me know. I will always arrange something for you Maggie. How do we possibly send you anything physical? Mail, or what? How do we get money to you too? Have a great , safe, full of adventure trip, across our Great Country. Love, Pat and Family

  2. Maggie! It's Ben. Keep on truckin' ... or bikin'. Good luck with the "real deal for real[z]." If your bike route leads you to Oxford, Ohio, by any chance, which I somehow doubt, call me and you can sleep on my air mattress. Peace.

  3. Maggie - it was so great to see you and catch up a little! As your mom said, we do indeed feel honored! As for advice, you've known us all your life, so you know you can always get more! Although I think shoes, glasses and ass creme might be considered the Big 3 in some circles!

Now that you have your shoes you can have fun practicing "smooth circles" with your pedal stroke to get even stronger - pushing with one leg while pulling with the other. It will make you a warrior woman on the hills!

If you end up anywhere in CO, do let us know. We'd love to see you again! Love and adventures, Anne and Cary

  4. Dearest Maggie,---It was wonderful to have you visit with me on Sat. and Sun. and to see your plans and hear about your unbelievable adventure. I was so happy after you left me to hear you were able to spend the night at the Lutheran Outdoor facilities . The 90 miles to get there on your first long trip proved to me you are a superwomen. Be sure to keep using the round little bottle we got you as often as you need to. Remember all you see and have lots of fun. Beautiful country coming up. Lots of Hugs and Kisses. Love Grandma R.
